Kiawah Island Bike Safety

  • Wearing a helmet on Kiawah Island is not required but recommend. 
  • Bicycles should have lights and reflectors after dark; reflective clothing is recommended.
  • Observe all stop signs on leisure trails and streets.

Kiawah Island Bike Rules

While On Leisure Trails:

  • Riders must keep to the right, ride single file, and announce their presence when overtaking others.
  • Riding on golf cart paths is prohibited.
  • Bike riding on streets with a parallel bike path is not allowed. Biking on Kiawah Island Parkway, Governors Drive, and Ocean Course Drive is prohibited.

     

When At Boardwalks:

  • Bicycles must be walked across boardwalks to the beach and parked only in designated areas.

Respect Wildlife:

  • Maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from shorebirds and avoid biking through flocks of birds.
  • Stay at least 60 feet away from alligators near lakes and ponds.

Bike Storage:

  • Bikes must be stored overnight in a location where they are not visible from the street or adjoining property.
  • Island guests must place their bikes at designated racks, while rental home guests must keep bikes out of view from the road.
