Kiawah Island Bike Safety
- Wearing a helmet on Kiawah Island is not required but recommend.
- Bicycles should have lights and reflectors after dark; reflective clothing is recommended.
- Observe all stop signs on leisure trails and streets.
Kiawah Island Bike Rules
While On Leisure Trails:
- Riders must keep to the right, ride single file, and announce their presence when overtaking others.
- Riding on golf cart paths is prohibited.
- Bike riding on streets with a parallel bike path is not allowed. Biking on Kiawah Island Parkway, Governors Drive, and Ocean Course Drive is prohibited.
When At Boardwalks:
- Bicycles must be walked across boardwalks to the beach and parked only in designated areas.
Respect Wildlife:
- Maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from shorebirds and avoid biking through flocks of birds.
- Stay at least 60 feet away from alligators near lakes and ponds.
Bike Storage:
- Bikes must be stored overnight in a location where they are not visible from the street or adjoining property.
- Island guests must place their bikes at designated racks, while rental home guests must keep bikes out of view from the road.
